I properly slayed the velvet trend

Happy Fashion Friday! How are my babes doing today? I am so happy it’s the weekend and can’t wait to have at least one drink today for St. Patrick’s Day lol. As we start to say goodbye to winter (let’s pray), it is now time to reflect on the trends in our closet today. One of my favorite fabrics and trends has been velvet this 2017/2018 season.

Since I truly believe I was meant to be in my ‘20s in the ‘90s, I feel a special connection to this trend and where retailers are going with it. From crop tops to the dress I’m wearing, velvet is a great, textured staple to add to your outfit. I love the way it feels and fits the form of my body whether I’m wearing it in a casual or dressy way.

For this look, I wanted to have fun and go with a “night on the town” theme. If you’ve been following, you know color-blocking is one of my favorite things in almost any look. When I found these red boots, it seemed only right that it clashed with the indigo dress. To go for an even more edgy look, and to embrace my inner Black Panther, I had to rock a leather beret and jacket.

The best way to wear velvet is to wear it in a minimal way. Like many distinct fabrics, velvet is great for one item of clothing, and in my case, I picked the dress. Velvet is also great with booties and jackets, which can easily make a simple outfit pop. It’s also a trend that can be used long after winter is done trying to kill us.

What’s your favorite trend that is old but new again? I’d love to know!
