Hi, lovelies! I missed you all so much and am so happy to be back on the blog! If you’ve noticed (you have because you’re obsessed with me, right?) I haven’t been on my blog or social media since my amazing partnership with Masked Beauty Skincare. The opportunity to work with this brand was something I’ve dreamed of since I started this blog last year and I know it wouldn’t have been possible without my followers on both my blog and social media and I really appreciated the turnout. But because I get in my own head too much, I couldn’t focus on the success of my first brand deal because I was already five steps ahead of what I want to accomplish in my career.
We all have seen studies linking social media with the growing number of millennials with depression and anxiety, and, as we go through Mental Health Awareness Month, I’ve been questioning if I’m also in that number, or if I just need a break. So, in April, I got off of social media, TV (the hardest part), and anything else that could possibly distract me. I wanted to read, reflect, and just get things in order without the noise. Doing this made me actually listen to God and to myself on what this next phase of my life and career will be and I am so grateful I gave myself that time.
All of us have things distracting us from our greatest potential. Whether it’s food, alcohol, drugs, relationships, television, sleep, sex, or even social media, all of the things we love are almost always keeping us from what we need to be doing. One of the biggest challenges I face as a writer and content creator is making time to actually create. But you know what I will make time for? Good Girls (get into it), the latest Breakfast Club interview, or my latest binge-fest of Sex and the City. It’s a mess and I have to do better because this year is already flying by and I want to make my next brand deal happen faster than the first one did. I’m not saying I won’t have time for fun (it’s summer and I’m single as a pringle lol), but I will be giving more of my free time to my dreams and goals for my career, mental, and physical health.
If you have something that you can’t stop thinking about accomplishing but you feel like you don’t have time, you owe it to yourself to hold you accountable. Having an accountability partner is great, but ultimately, it’s your life and you control what it looks like. My procrastination is probably my biggest struggle and something I have to pray and work on constantly. If you also face procrastination and aren’t sure what the root cause of it is, I pray all of you find it and move past it and build on the things you know you have to do. Because as the world contains of more and more trash, we need more creative, healing, and positive minds to share their gifts.
